How do we work?

Levels

All courses follow the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) levels.
After an individual written and oral placement test, students are divided into level groups.

Our approach

These courses are taught by specialist teachers of French as a foreign language from the Institut d'Etudes du Français pour Etrangers (IEFE).

The communicative approach and the action-oriented perspective dominate the teaching: there is a great deal of interaction both in and out of class: informal exchanges, presentations, press reviews, and short exams. An approach based on the immersion environment, designed to provide a better understanding of life in France.

Individual work is required at home, and regular attendance is necessary to progress.

Activities are based on extracts from textbooks or on teacher-created documents, with an emphasis on authentic material: extracts from newspaper articles, videos, radio broadcasts, literary texts, and so on.

At the end of the course, each participant receives a certificate of attendance, and those interested can register for official certification (DELF/DALF, sessions in March and June at IEFE Pau).

Where?

On the premises of the Centre de Ressources en Langues (CRL), on the Campus de la Nive in Bayonne (Sainte-Claire building, opposite the university library).

Public

Courses open to all (you must have a diploma equivalent to the baccalauréat).

Daytime courses are aimed at people from outside the University (au pairs, employees, job seekers, retraining, etc.).

Evening classes are open to both students and non-students, doctoral students and UPPA staff.
