How do we work?

Levels

All courses follow the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) levels.
After an individual written and oral placement test, students are divided into level groups.

Our approach

These courses are taught by specialist teachers of French as a foreign language from the Institut d'Etudes du Français pour Etrangers (IEFE).

The communicative approach and the action-oriented perspective dominate the teaching: there is a great deal of interaction both in and out of class: informal exchanges, presentations, press reviews, and short exams. An approach based on the immersion environment, designed to provide a better understanding of life in France.

Individual work is required at home, and regular attendance is necessary to progress.

Activities are based on extracts from textbooks or on teacher-created documents, with an emphasis on authentic material: extracts from newspaper articles, videos, radio broadcasts, literary texts, and so on.

At the end of the course, each participant receives a certificate of attendance, and those interested can register for official certification (DELF/DALF, sessions in March and June at IEFE Pau).

Where?

On the premises of the Centre de Ressources en Langues (CRL), on the Campus de la Nive in Bayonne (Sainte-Claire building, opposite the university library).

Student testimonials

  • Juanita, USA : "It has been a great experience to take French classes from this program for foreigners. The Bayonne extension of the Pau University has an excellent program to teach foreigners the French language. The professor specializes in teaching foreigners and her methods bring to light the complexities of the language. She includes oral and written comprehension as well as grammar, elocution, the written word and the many nuances of the language.  In all the many French classes I’ve taken, this is by far the very best in my experience. I highly recommend it, the professor is the TOP!"

  • Maite, Venezuela/Spain: ‘The lessons with Nathalie were fantastic! She created a learning environment that was friendly, serious, authentic and very professional. We learned that having fun is the best way to learn a language or anything else. Oh, and the picnics were fabulous, and the classrooms were quiet, spacious and bright.’
  • Yaneth, Colombia: "The FLE programme at the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour in Bayonne is excellent!!!! I took the course and prepared for the DELF B1 and B2 exams, and everything went very well. At the university, all the teachers specialise in teaching foreigners. I have taken other courses elsewhere, and the difference in French teaching is remarkable. The teaching method is excellent, making it easy to learn the language. The French courses at this institution have enabled me to improve my communication skills, helping me to integrate into French life, and perhaps continue towards a C1. Thank you to Nathalie, Vilma and the whole team in Bayonne!"
  • Araceli, Mexico: "Thanks to this course, I passed the DELF B2 exam. The lessons are dynamic and include grammar exercises. Nathalie, the teacher, is always attentive and open to incorporating new things into the programme, and she is very patient!  There is a very pleasant atmosphere with students from all over the world.  I really enjoyed it and learned a lot."
